2009 Subleague Qualifier 2

So on May 2nd 2009 I attended the 2009 Subleague Qualifier 2

For those of you that don't know what subleague is, it's a submission wrestling league, where you are wrestling and opponent around the same weight as yourself, and you are both trying to apply different types of chokes, arm locks, leg locks etc. trying to make the opponent tap out, or "give up" http://subleague.com/ most are trained in some form of Jiu Jitsu, also Pankration. I train out of Arlington Kickboxing Academy. http://arlingtonkickboxingacademy.biz follow this link if you may be interested in competing in a grappling submission tournament like this. Arlington submission challenge 2, June 20th 2009

There was four girls total in my division. the matches run a maximum 4 minutes.

My first match was pretty quick, we wrestled for a very short period of time, I then got into the proper position of my rubberguard and applied a choke that is with my shin called a gogoplata, she had to tap. Yay for my first win of the day!

My second match was a girl that looked as if she has been weight training! very "buff" the match ran the whole four minutes, during which was a submission attempt by myself (an armbar) that didn't go so well, my opponent actually stood up and lifted me off the ground and slammed me on my back (very illegal in this sport) she was then able to get her arm away from me. It ended in a draw.

Sooo... my third and final match of the day, didn't last very long either. My opponent dove towards me with a takedown attempt. I was then able to get my arm around her head, and across her neck to try a choke called a reverse guillatine... as we were on the ground I could feel some resistance from my opponent but not a lot.. so I was slightly concerned, but the referee said nothing so I continued to squeeze. My opponent still has not tapped and is not actively fighting, so my husband/coach came around the ring to get a better look when he realized she was unconsious. I immediately released her and they rolled her to her back which showed her pale white face and red eyes and purple lips. This was very scary and a very emotional moment for myself... she lay there for what seemed like a whole minute, with her head in the upright postion wide eyed but not breathing. She finally took a breathe of air. Boy was I releived I was sooo upset at the horrible job displayed by that referee!

The referee actually had the nerve to come to me and tell me that I should have payed closer attention and listened to hear her "snort" before she went unconsious... that is what HE is there for! let me remind you this is the NOVICE division! we had only been training in this sport for about 2 months at the time!

I recieved first place and free entry into the championships! YAY!
